An image taken on the coast of the Olympic peninsula, Washington State, USA. We had spent the day exploring inland in glorious sunshine, but had noticed earlier in the day that the Puget Sound was covered in a blanket of thick fog. When we reached the west coast at Rialto beach. the ocean was still covered in fog, the beach was bathed in a warm evening light, and was also littered with bleached tree trunks that are found up and down the northwestern seaboard of the USA.
With conditions like that all working in one's favour, taking an great image is much easier. Just to make sure, I took a lot of bracketed exposures and this picture is an HDR composite. I tend to prefer subtle HDR effects, as the technique can be overdone and has earned a bad reputation in some quarters, but I hope you agree that it works here.
